DEAD GOAT SALOON

A ROCKIN’ LI’L ROADHOUSE

The Dead Goat Saloon was a Utah landmark for over fourty years. Established in 1965 by three college mates, the Dead Goat quickly became the place to hang out in Salt Lake City. It was orignially a beer bar, shuffle board, pool and flirting were its major draws. In 1997, it became a “private club” under Utah’s arcane liquor laws, allowing the sale of liquor and wine. It also became the hotspot for a variety of local and national bands, primarily blues music. In 2003, the Utah legislature, in all of its wisdom, adopted significant changes in liquor laws which spelled the  end of the Dead Goat as a music venue. However, instead of closing the doors and leave thousands of dollars owed to vendors and other old friends, the Saloon obtained the only sexually oriented business (SOB) license ever issued in the downtown grid and became a gentlemen’s club (strip bar). At this point, it’s name was changed to CRAZY GOAT SALOON. If the brothers who run this state don’t like blues, how about boobs? Well... they didn’t like it even worse. When our site is up and running, you will be able to explore the old Dead Goat and find out what happened next. Stay tuned.
